In this unit, everyone in the class was assigned with a different psychological disorder that they were to research, put into a presentation, and then teach it to the rest of the class. For myself, I studied Panic Disorder because I know a few people in my life that struggle with panic attacks. I wanted to learn more about what it means to have the disorder. So, panic disorder is where a person experiences panic attacks at random and cannot control it at all. They don’t even need a situational trigger to bring on an attack. The longevity of panic attacks can vary anywhere in between 30 seconds to 10 minutes as well as the severity of panic attacks. During an attack, the victim might start sweating, feel nauseated, get chills or hot flashes, and feel like they are going to die. Then, without any notice, the panic attack with cease and go away, leaving the person feeling very frightened and worn. Lots of people with panic disorder feel like they are going crazy when they are suffering from an attack because they cannot control how they feel and when they feel this way. Panic disorder can stop people from performing everyday tasks and having normal relationships because they are so frightened that they will have another attack. I enjoyed working on this project because it seemed like the more mediums that I worked on, the more I learned

The day we started the presentations, I found a lot of glitches in a couple of my mediums, so when I went home, I completely redid two of them. I think it was a really smart decision, because I learned a lot about the different between panic disorder with and without agoraphobia while making my prezi. I thought it was really interesting to see how everyone else went about the project as well. Below, I have created a prezi that summarizes the disorders that my classmates presented on. This type of psychology is really important to learn because it not only helps you understand how many disorders out there, but also to accept people in the real world that suffer from these issues. The more people that understand what a struggle it is to suffer from these disorders, the easier it will be for these victims to find encouragement to seek therapy and council. |
